Recommended Reading

For those who are new to Stirnerite egoism, I've compiled a list of short excerpts which address fundamental points.

Max Stirner

One of the Young Hegelians, along with Marx, Feuerbach, Hess and Bruno Bauer, among others. He opposed Communism, Humanism, and Socialism with his radical egoism. He is claimed as an intellectual predecessor by anarchists, individualists, and communists. The archive Includes almost all of Stirner's works in german, all known english translations, articles about Stirner by other Young Hegelians, and other commentaries on Stirner.

Dora Marsden

A suffragist leader in England, and editor of "The Freewoman", "The New Freewoman", and "The Egoist", a series of small but influential magazines which articulated various radical visions including feminism, anarchism, and egoism.

Includes contributions by Benjamin Tucker and Stephen Byington, along with their lengthy exchange with Marsden over anarchism, archism, and egoism.

Sidney Parker

The editor of a series of anarchist and egoist journals from 1963-1993, which contains extensive information on the secondary literature on Stirner.

James L. Walker

Author of the first major work in English on Egoism, and largely responsible for bringing egoism to an American audience, through his articles in Benjamin R. Tucker's magazine "Liberty", under the pseudonym "Tak Kak".

Non Serviam Electronic Newsletter

Electronic magazine for those who do not intend to serve any higher cause. Different aspects of egoism are elaborated, mainly from the perspective of Stirnerite egoists. Archives available.
